ROONEY stayed on for another five years

Past five days has been the most shocking day for me as a Man United and Wayne Rooney die hard fan.

How can he make such a terrible call, not to extend his contract. A bit of history(everything is over now) bout this saga :
  • October 19, Sir Alex Ferguson received a phone call from CEO David Gill claiming that Rooney is not going to extend his contract.
  • In an post match interview with Jose Mourinho after R.Madrid vs AC Milan match, he said  "I believe he is going to stay. But if at the end of the day Manchester United decide that he is to leave, then give me a call''
  • October 20, Rooney issued a statement.
"I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad. I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract. Despite recent difficulties, I know I will always owe Sir Alex Ferguson a huge debt. For Manchester United's sake I wish he could go on forever because he's a one off and a genius''
  • After Champion League win over Bursaspor, Ferguson call for the team to consider and try to put this things to an end.
  • Ian Holloway, Blackpool boss urge Rooney not to repeat the people at the very top of the game's fault. Man U has helped him growth his career massively from a young boy(transfer form Everton when he was 18) into where he is today.
  • Robbie Fowler, former Liverpool striker jokes about Rooney to join him in Australia. Shut up Robbie, not funny at all.
  • October 22, Rooney agreed another deal till 2015
"I am delighted to sign another deal at United. In the last couple of days, I have talked to the manager and the owners and they have convinced me this is where I belong. I said on Wednesday the manager is a genius and it is his belief and support that have convinced me to stay''

After this saga, i think Rooney's role in club become more important as to guide those young player and establish himself into one of United's great player. Most importantly, a few trophies as he wishes.
My gut feeling also tells me Man United will bring in a star player on January transfer window re-open.
