Park Ji-Sung is the hero against wolf

Park Ji-Sung score a stoppage time superb to hand a 2-1 victory to Man Utd. This is also a perfect 24th anniversary present for Sir Alex Ferguson as Man Utd manager.

Thanks to Footytube for the highlight of the game.

Owen Hargreaves make a surprise inclusion in the starting line up, but only lasted for five minutes. He limped off the field(looks like a hamstring injury), have a bit of talk with team physio, then down the tunnel. He might have another spells at the sidelines.
In May 2007, Man Utd spent $17million pound to buy him from Bayern Munich. In season 2007/08, he had his outstanding performance, finished with an outstanding penalty in CL Final shoot-out victory against Chelsea. He had been injured since September 08. Up to date, he only make 39 appearances for Man Utd. What a crystal man...

Lets back to the game, yeah..it isn't a great game to watch, not the sort of performance as champion contender. The young guns still need some time to glue it up. At the end of the day, three points is what we after....yes

Oh yeah, the red poppy on Sir Alex left chest..do u see it. Its poppy day next week(11th November), also call Remembrance Day. It is a special day set aside to remember all those men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, which is usually the Sunday nearest to 11 November. Special services are held at war memorials and churches all over Britain.

ROONEY stayed on for another five years

Past five days has been the most shocking day for me as a Man United and Wayne Rooney die hard fan.

How can he make such a terrible call, not to extend his contract. A bit of history(everything is over now) bout this saga :
  • October 19, Sir Alex Ferguson received a phone call from CEO David Gill claiming that Rooney is not going to extend his contract.
  • In an post match interview with Jose Mourinho after R.Madrid vs AC Milan match, he said  "I believe he is going to stay. But if at the end of the day Manchester United decide that he is to leave, then give me a call''
  • October 20, Rooney issued a statement.
"I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad. I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract. Despite recent difficulties, I know I will always owe Sir Alex Ferguson a huge debt. For Manchester United's sake I wish he could go on forever because he's a one off and a genius''
  • After Champion League win over Bursaspor, Ferguson call for the team to consider and try to put this things to an end.
  • Ian Holloway, Blackpool boss urge Rooney not to repeat the people at the very top of the game's fault. Man U has helped him growth his career massively from a young boy(transfer form Everton when he was 18) into where he is today.
  • Robbie Fowler, former Liverpool striker jokes about Rooney to join him in Australia. Shut up Robbie, not funny at all.
  • October 22, Rooney agreed another deal till 2015
"I am delighted to sign another deal at United. In the last couple of days, I have talked to the manager and the owners and they have convinced me this is where I belong. I said on Wednesday the manager is a genius and it is his belief and support that have convinced me to stay''

After this saga, i think Rooney's role in club become more important as to guide those young player and establish himself into one of United's great player. Most importantly, a few trophies as he wishes.
My gut feeling also tells me Man United will bring in a star player on January transfer window re-open.

Strawberry planting

Spring is a good time for gardening as outdoor temperature start warming up. Gardening department from The Warehouse and Mitre 10 has been doing vege and fruit tree sales, including strawberry.

Strawberry is easy to grow. It take only little space in the garden and can be so rewarding when the time to harvest. I had always want to do that in a gutter shape container, and my friend Carl make me one yesterday...yeah!
wodden strawberry container
Today, i quickly went to get 6 plants for $14 from The Warehouse and start planting. Firstly, i filled up the container with compost. Slowly, i took out the plant from plastic pot, loosen their root and put them into this wooden container.(i do not took photo during the process cos my hand was dirty).
all 6 plants align nicely in my wooden container
After all, i give them a handful of fertilizer(cos i dont have the proper strawberry fertilizer, i gave them tomato fertilizer as the N-P-K ratio 4-4-8 is similar). They had plenty of water too as they are shallow rooted.

All these plants had start flowering and as the temperature gets warmer, more flower start to come out. I hope i can start harvest after a month and will keep posting for the progress.

Ops, before i forget.. i better explain the wire surrounding the plants are frame for netting. It is not needed at this moment until the fruit set. I'm a bit miserly of this and don't want to share with the bird....haha

Wrong announcement on Australia Next Top Model 2010

It was a big night for more then 1 million oz live in front of tv and crowds, waiting for the announcement of Australia Next Top Model 2010. Sarah Murdoch accidentally announced Kelsey as the winner, instead the rightful winner Amanda Ware.

I think yesterday night must has been the most embarrassing  night for poor Sarah(look at her reaction), when she told the audience she had been fed with wrong info, and the real winner was actually Amanda.

An extra hour to enjoy the day

Tomorrow(26 Sept 2010)is the first day of New Zealand Daylight savings time. It means the clock will be push forward an hour to become GMT +13. It sounds funny is it? Why we need to do that? This is the sort of question i'll be asking when i first experience this, and today i have my answer.

Solar Systems
Earth makes a complete counterclockwise rotation on its axis, which cause day-night cycle. However, earth axis actually tilted by 23.5 degrees, with north end of the earth axis always pointed towards North Star. Seasonal changes occur as the earth orbit the sun.

During summer, the portion of the Earth that is experiencing summer is tilted toward the Sun. So, it gets longer days.(New Zealand and other south atmosphere country in this case).
Someone might ask how long the day can get up to? Its depends on the latitude. Starting from spring equinox(21 September), sunrise become earlier and earlier at the same time sunset getting late. Summer solstice(longest day) is on December 22, where we get up to 15 hours of daylight.

Why we need to push forward the clock
I'll include the chart to help me better explain this, and i'll use wellington time as standard. On Aug 9, sunrise at 07:20 and set at 17:33. More then five weeks later(Sept 18), sunrise at 06:18 and sunset at 18:13.
As you can see, sunrise has become nearly 1 hour earlier and sunset become 40minutes later. This will continue and the sun will rise at 04:42(B) if we dont push forward an hour to the clock. What you wanna do by waking up before 5am?
Therefore, we push forward the clock on 26th September 2010, indirectly longer the evening time.(A) This will give people an extra hour of daylight after working-hours during summer months for recreation of all kind, especially outdoor. There will be a saving on power usage as artificial light is not needed until late.

All in all, i enjoy the beginning of daylight savings and so do most of the people(i guess...haha). I'll be able to spend more time in the garden, and go biking more often...yeah!!

Strangest Penalty Goal Ever

In my 10years as a football fans, this is the first time i saw such a joke by the goalkeeper.

Not many peolple aware of this as it happen during a clash between Moroccan top division team Maghreb Fez vs  FAR Raba. Goalkeeper Khalid Askri turns to celebrate totally unaware that the ball is coolly spinning itself into the back on the net.

It is only when he turns his head that he realises he has quite possibly made the stupidest mistake in football EVER!   haha

Renwick Pie Shop

From Nelson to Renwick (103km)

coffee & walnut fudge...yum yum!

Seymour Square, Blenheim

Blenheim is blessed with many attractive parks and the focal point of the town is the wonderful Seymour Square. The square named after Henry Seymour. It contains the War Memorial and Clock Tower, unveiled in 1928, and serves as the Marlborough province's principal monument to residents killed during the First World War. The War Memorial and Clock Tower is classified as a "Category 1" historical place by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
The Clock Tower stands at 16.5m high, was designed by Roger Bacon as WW1 Memorial. There is a memorial chamber contains six bronze plates with the names of 419 Marlburians who lost their lives. The tower's clock and bell were donated by George F.Watts and Ethel in memory of two nephews killed in action. Until today, clock chimes every hour on the hour.
The Inscription on the outside written "To the glory of God, and the memory of the men of Marlborough who give their lives in the Great War"

World War Two Memorial Fountain located adjacent to the Clock Tower. At night the fountain comes to life, with beautiful colours emitted from the water.
The fountain was erected in the memory of those men and women of Blenheim and the surrounding districts, who made the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War 1939-1945.
